Tourism Ireland reported a 13% increase in visitors from mainland Europe.

As a German speaking tour guide, I hear a lot of Germans say, that they cancelled their Greek holiday and opted for Ireland instead. The reason – anti German sentiment in Greece.
On the other hand, there are still plenty of Germans going to Greece. The Greek understand to differentiate between ordinary, money spending, Germans and German politicians. Seemingly, Germans are the tourists who spend most money in Greece and 20% of Greek jobs depend on tourism. You wouldn’t want to bite the hand that feeds you, would you?

However, other European nations are not as happy to holiday in Greece as the Germans are. Many tourists from other European countries cancelled their Greek holiday, because of the uncertainty in Greece.
