The suggested new rent certainty for rental property, proposed by the current government, is not going to create any certainty. According to this new proposal, rents can only be increased every two years. This is supposed to give tenants a piece of mind.
Rental Contracts are Annual
When you look at rental contracts, you’ll notice that across the board, rental contracts are limited to one year. All the landlord has to do is, discontinue the rental contract and sign a new contract. It is up to the landlord to renew or not renew rental contracts. Just as in the old days, when the absent landlords leased the land to the Irish tenants on 12 months contracts at a time.
