Lyra McKee, a young journalist and human right’s activist, was murdered by the New IRA. The media is outraged. Politicians hold hands and deliver great speeches. But what about the people? What about the majority of us, who condemn violence?
We’re sitting idle – as so often. Lyra will be buried today. Politicians will attend this sad occassion and will make sure they show compassion. The media will have some closing words and, in future, will pick up the story when it suits them.
The deafening silence of the peaceful majority is giving way to the noise of the violent minority. What happened to people’s power? What are we afraid of?
We need to get up and show the cowards who murdered Lyra McKee that this was an attack on all of us – that we’re having NO MORE!
